And what about yellow, orange and red...?

I wanted to explore some colours that I rarely use. Most of the time I turn for different blues and greens and these aren't "my colours" in the same way. It was really interesting how clearly I could feel the difference while painting. I felt so much more insecure and I wasn't at all sure where I was heading.

But I am so glad that I challenged myself and I like the result. I am also happy that I came up with the idea to use the green wall in Linus' room to take photos. :)

I just have to add the other two as well, against the green. :) The light wasn't perfect though, and they are a little too dark at the top compared to the bottom part in these photos...

The painting...

It measures 30x60 cm, which is approx. 12x24 inches. I mostly used acrylic paint, but also some collage and a marker and probably something else that I have forgotten about... :) It's tricky to get a good photo of it! The edges of the canvas are painted blue but I cropped the image because of the messy background. I should find a not-so-messy spot to take photos where the whole canvas is visible. :D

 

I actually made a drawing with this kind of shape while being at the University and listening to a lecture a few weeks ago. Being a student is good for your creativity... :D

 

 

Cocoa Daisy September Project Art kit

The September Project Art kit from Cocoa Daisy contained Liquitex String Gel, two “fragments” designed by Ronda Palazzari to use as masks, an exclusive Cocoa Daisy stamp “little dots”, a Fude Ball pen, a tube of Dina Wakley acrylic paint “ruby”, a graph card and a piece of sewing pattern.

I really love String Gel! It's so fun and messy! :) You can use it as it is (it's white, but dries clear) or you can colour it with paint. Here I used the red Dina W paint and Liquitex Acrylic Ink in gold.

I also tried making patterns with gel + black paint and then filling some of the spaces up with other colours.

I made some green grass...

I used mist and then rubbed some acrylic paint on top of the gel, to make it stand out.

I created this very simple layout with this three year old photo of baby Tuva! :)

I also created this page in my journal, practicing some writing with the gel + black paint.

Project Art December

The December Project Art kit from Cocoa Daisy contains a fabulous travel set of Koi watercolours and a beautifully sparkling Iridescent Medium! The kit also contains vintage book pages, vintage flash cards, super cute vintage hair nets(!) and washi tape and Studio Calico cork arrows. I had so much fun playing with these supplies!

I played around a lot and for example made this tiny and simple drawing... :)

I painted over dry gel medium, previously applied through a stencil.

I experimented with some doodeling... and here you can see the amazing shimmering of the iridescent medium!

I made a page that I called "a wish list for my house"... about all the projects that I would love to get done.

I also used one of the fantastic vintage hair nets that come in the kit, to create a page about this new year. I had so many ideas for colouring the pattern created by the net! "twentyFOURTEEN" is one of the fab Cocoa Daisy stamps.

I experimented with painting a face...

...and I made a page about love... :) I love the "notes" stamp above and the "love lives here" stamp below!

No black or white...

The assignment for the third round of the scrap battle tournament was a tough one - create something colourful and NO black or white allowed. Black and white are fabulous colours for contrast and it was really hard to stay away from using them.

I am very happy with my layout, even if I didn't make it to the next round. Katarina created a fabulous, gorgeous, colourful layout and I wish her the very best in the upcoming rounds of the tournament!

I know the dots on the green paper and the stars on the yellow paper look white in this photo, but they're really tone on tone patterns, light green and light yellow. It would be interesting to add the dates of when these papers got into my hands... I was digging deep into my old stuff to find the right papers! =)

I have mixed feelings about my mixed media piece for the same challenge. =) I am practicing and learning all the time and I actually have this "wow-feeling" of having learned something important about what I like and not like and that feeling hit me shortly after having finished this painting. Everything I create takes me one small step forward I guess. :)

Freedom

Here's a canvas that I created for the European Scrap Battle. I used lots of acrylic paint but also pen, string, gel medium, fabric, ribbons, mist, Glimmer Glam, alcohol ink... The black spots are embossing powder, black UTEE.

Two smaller paintings made with Montana spray paint (in the background) and lots of Liquitex acrylic paint. These are about 20x30 cm each.

Painting...!!!!

I have been painting again... finally! I find that it's a bit difficult to get started when I haven't been painting for a while, but once I get going... wow, it's addictive! I don't want to stop! :) This is one out of four paintings I've been working on during the past couple of weeks.

I have so many ideas. The paintings never turn out exactly the way I was thinking or hoping, but I constantly learn new things and I truly enjoy the process of exploring, practicing and learning.

This was done with mostly acrylic paint, some heavy gel medium and a pen.



On my wishlist today, except for more hours in the day: an easel and a big studio! :)
